Teleradyo Serbisyo Interview of Ms. Louie Zepeda-Teng: Shedding Light on the Mental Health Journey of TB Patients

TBpeople Philippines President Louie Zepeda-Teng shared her experience with TB in a recent interview with Kabayan Noli De Castro on Teleradyo Serbisyo, she opened up about her personal journey with Tuberculosis (TB) and enlightened on the often overlooked aspect of how TB treatment can impact mental health.

Ms. Zepeda-Teng’s story serves as a poignant reminder of the challenges faced by individuals battling TB, not only physically but also emotionally and mentally. As a survivor and advocate, she emphasizes the need for complete support systems that address both the physical and mental well-being of TB patients.

During her interview, Ms. Zepeda-Teng highlighted the psychological toll that TB treatment can take on patients. The prolonged duration of treatment, potential side effects of medications, and the stigma associated with the disease can all contribute to feelings of isolation, anxiety, and depression. She emphasized the importance of raising awareness about the mental health aspects of TB and advocating for greater support services for patients. By addressing the emotional and psychological needs of individuals undergoing treatment, we can improve their overall well-being and enhance treatment outcomes.

In addition to advocating for patient support, TBpeople Philippines also focuses on raising awareness about TB prevention and treatment within communities. TB Education is important in combating the spread of the disease and dispelling myths and misconceptions surrounding it. As Ms. Zepeda-Teng continues her advocacy work, she hopes to inspire others to speak up about their experiences with TB and mental health challenges. By sharing her story, she aims to foster a greater understanding and compassion for those affected by TB, while also driving meaningful change in how we approach TB care and support.
