I am Ma. Cristina Brigaste, a registered nurse, and a DR-TB survivor.

Years ago, I had nothing in mind but to pursue my profession as a nurse and become successful. However, most of my time was spent as a hospital volunteer where there was no compensation. To state the reality, being a nurse meant not having enough time to eat, sleep and rest. It also meant being on duty without the necessary safety equipment for protection, which inevitably makes us at risk of contracting infectious diseases.

This is me, a TB survivor

In 2000, I was diagnosed to have Diabetes Mellitus Type 2. After six months I am feeling cold but it’s summer time. I notice some weight loss and feeling exhausted while doing my daily routine. I immediately disregard the way I’m feeling thinking it might go away if I rest for a while but it did not.

16 yrs old ako ng umibig, sabi nga nila “puppy love” daw. Nagkaroon kami ng 6 na anak, Hindi ko alam kung bakit? (I was raped?/battered wife kasi ako) and to make the long story short naghiwalay din kmi ng first “husband” (na ICU kc ako due to fractures nung last name gulpi nya sakin).

Dumating si “2nd husband’, sobrang thankful ako kay God kc mapagmahal siya at tinaggap nya ako kahit 6 ang anak ko, naging mabuti syang ama sa mga anak ko at asawa din naman sa akin.

I’m Niño, 30 years old
from Quezon City.

I just wanna share my personal experience as a MDR-TB Survivor.

Last quarter of 2008 nung ma-diagnose sa health center na may TB ako. Yung klase na 6months lang magaling ka na. Pero dahil di naman ako masyado educated nung mga time na yun in the age of 18y.o about sa TB, binalewala ko yung mga libreng gamot na bigay ng health center until lumala sya.
