TBpeople Philippines Advances TB Awareness in Surigao Del Norte

TBpeople Philippines recently undertook a series of strategic engagements in Siargao to advance their mission of combating tuberculosis (TB) and promoting awareness about the disease. The team’s visit included meetings with local government officials, educational institutions, media appearances, and community outreach activities.

The TBpeople Philippines team began their visit with a courtesy call to General Luna’s Mayor, Sol Forcadilla Matugas. The purpose of this meeting was to introduce TBpeople Philippines, outline their mission, and share the various projects and initiatives they have implemented across the country. The team emphasized their commitment to the “Fast Track The Cure” campaign, with the hashtag #6MonthsMax, which advocates for safe, effective, and faster cures for drug-resistant tuberculosis. They also highlighted the OneImpact app, a digital tool designed to connect TB patients with peers and provide them with information about TB.

Following their meeting with Mayor Matugas, TBpeople Philippines engaged with the SNSU – University Student Council – Del Carmen Campus. The team delivered a brief presentation introducing the organization’s advocacy efforts and discussed opportunities for collaboration. By building relationships with the student council, TBpeople Philippines aims to mobilize young leaders in the fight against TB, leveraging their influence to spread awareness and drive community action.

To further amplify their message, TBpeople Philippines made a guest appearance on Radyo Kabakhawan DXNG-FM 97.7 MHz. During the radio show, the team discussed the prevalence of tuberculosis in the Philippines, the importance of early detection and treatment, and the resources available to those affected by TB. This platform allowed them to reach a broader audience and engage with listeners on a personal level, addressing their questions and concerns about the disease.

The final activity of the visit was a TB Orientation session held with the Municipality of Del Carmen. This session included an informative lecture aimed at raising awareness about tuberculosis, its symptoms, and prevention methods. The TBpeople Philippines team provided valuable information about the latest treatments and support services available to TB patients. The warm reception from the Del Carmen community made the session particularly memorable and highlighted the importance of local support in the fight against TB. TBpeople Philippines expresses deep appreciation to Mayor Alfredo “JR” Coro II for his steadfast support in bringing this initiative to fruition. They also extend their heartfelt thanks to MHO Dr. Marjorie Vizconde for her support and for warmly accommodating TBpeople Philippines.

TBpeople Philippines continues to lead the charge in the battle against tuberculosis. Their efforts in Siargao exemplify their commitment to making a tangible difference in communities across the Philippines, ensuring that everyone has access to the knowledge and resources needed to combat this infectious disease.
