Onsite Monitoring meeting to evaluate the effectiveness and safety of the Bedaquiline-Pretomanid-Linezolid (BPaL) treatment

TBpeople Philippines participated in the Onsite Monitoring meeting, which was organized by a monitoring team from LCP-NCPR, KNCV, TDFI, and Jose B. Lingad Memorial General Hospital. The meeting aimed to evaluate the effectiveness and safety of the Bedaquiline-Pretomanid-Linezolid (BPaL) treatment regimen in the Philippines. The meeting took place at Dr. Jose N. Rodriguez Memorial Hospital and Sanitarium (DJNRMH) PMDT Treatment Center Clinic and RTDL in Tala Caloocan City on June 29, 2023.

On the same day, our team had the privilege of a courtesy call with Dir. IV Aleli Annie Grace P. Sudiacal, MD, MPH, the Regional Director of Metro Manila Center for Health Development. Dr. Sudiacal expressed her appreciation for our IEC materials, specifically TBpeoplePH Komiks, and recommended digitizing them to reach a wider audience. She also suggested enhancing the materials to make them accessible to the public.

The following day, June 30, we had the opportunity to meet with Dr. Evelyn Ong-Cuevas, MD, MPH, MHA, the Officer-In-Charge of the City Health Office in Caloocan City. During our discussion, we exchanged experiences and received valuable suggestions from Dr. Ong-Cuevas on how to improve our TB program services. We also raised important concerns on behalf of TB Key Affected Populations to the government.

During our visits to different healthcare facilities, we prioritized conducting interviews with patients to address their concerns and discuss pertinent matters related to their treatment and understanding of TB. One aspect that left a lasting impression on us was witnessing the unwavering dedication and commitment demonstrated by healthcare providers toward serving patients affected by TB. Their selflessness and compassion are commendable, as they tirelessly work towards improving the health outcomes of individuals battling this infectious disease. They serve as a beacon of hope and inspiration to both patients and fellow healthcare professionals alike.
